A Rindge man who defrauded investors out of $22.8 million is working to file a petition to rehear an appeal on his sentencing and restitution.

Aaron Olson has been granted an extension to Sept. 25 to file a petition for rehearing by the First Circuit US Court of Appeals, according to court documents. The extension was granted after Olson’s attorney, Inga L. Parsons, filed documents with the court, saying that she has been away from her office since the ruling was made on Aug. 14.

On Aug. 14, judges upheld Olson’s prior sentence of five years in federal prison, with an additional three years of supervised release and restitution amount of $22,811,405.

Parsons had previously filed paperwork with the court of appeals, arguing that Olson’s prison sentence should be reduced to the 37 to 46 month range, and that restitution should be reduced by 24 percent, to $17,336,668.
