Our fire department is best department

To the editor,

We’re proud of our fire department here in Greenfield and don’t mind showing it off to townspeople and our neighbors in the region. Such an opportunity will come this Saturday during Fire and Rescue Celebration Day at the fire station on Forest Road.

The event is sponsored by the Greenfield select board in conjunction with Fire Prevention Month and will feature demonstrations of some of the town’s new lifesaving equipment, including the new Jaws of Life. See the jaws in action at 11 a.m.

Live demonstrations that could save your life someday include the fire extinguisher simulator, a cardiac monitor demonstration, the Fire Prevention Simulation Trailer and the Red Cross Smoke Detector program. A light lunch will be served and the event is free to the public.

Chief David Hall has also arranged fun for the kids. Rides in the fire trucks and rescue vehicles will be done in style, as each kid will get their own fire hat. They can don turnout gear and participate in the junior firefighter obstacle course.

For the smaller kids, they can spend time with the legendary Smokey the Bear and his good buddy Sparky, the Fire Dog. In addition to these celebrities, everyone is invited to come and meet your fire and rescue personnel. Come and see why we feel our fire department matches up to any in the region.
