MAxT Makerspace moving forward with Sharing Arts Ceramics Center

Published: 7/16/2020 11:11:33 AM

MAxT Makerspace’s effort to provide a new home for the region’s potters took a big leap forward this month, with the awarding of $62,500 in tax credits from New Hampshire’s Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA) that it can now sell to local businesses to raise the money required for its proposed Sharing Arts Ceramics Center in Dublin.

The new center is currently planned for opening in 2021 and will provide members with a space to work in a supportive community environment and access to kiln firings on both electric and gas kilns. It will provide the general public a space to take classes with some of the region’s most accomplished ceramicists.

The design of the center was created through a five-month process of in-depth community consultations, including town hall meetings, stakeholder meetings and surveys. MAxT and its partners identified major areas where our vibrant arts community needs support. The biggest priority is to replace the resources lost by Sharon Arts closure, starting with a ceramics workspace. The ceramics studio at Sharon Arts was the most active part of its continuing education program, attracting dozens of committed members to take classes and workshops.

The partners have worked with local potters to identify an appropriate studio space and develop a business and facility plan. The space’s location on Route 101 in Dublin allows MAxT to serve residents of both the Keene and Peterborough areas. It provides accessibility, affordability and a quality environment for artists to work.

The facility is now extremely close to becoming a reality, and there are a few ways members of the community can help:

Join the campaign: MAxT and its partners are inviting the community to a special virtual meetup on July 23 at 5:30 p.m., where they will present where things stand for the project, how it will move forward, and get to work on the last elements needed to make it reality by early 2021 – including outreach, publicity, facility plans and fit out of the space. Email to get added to the Zoom invite for the meetup.

Be a founding member: MAxT are now signing up members from the Keene and Peterborough areas who want to help get the ceramics center off the ground, and benefit from it. Access to the facility will be provided to these members who pay a monthly fee. Founding members will ensure the success of the new ceramics studio and be able to benefit from day one. They will receive a discounted $50/month membership fee for the first year, immediate discounts on all Sharing Arts Classes, plus discounts on MAxT’s Night Market vendor spots. Founding members will also have an opportunity to submit their work for Sharing Arts Gallery shows. Those interested can contact for more details and a registration form.
