Peterborough’s annual Earth Day roadside cleanup is Thursday, April 21, through Sunday, April 24.
The state provides designated blue bags for volunteers. They can be picked up at the Peterborough Town Library, the recycling center during operating hours and the Town House. People cleaning their roadside frontage will help the volunteers who have adopted specific stretches of road as a long-term commitment. The Highway Department crew will pick up blue bags along town roads on April 25, and state crews pick up blue bags along state roads.
Along with approximately 50 residents, ConVal Interact Club, Kiwanis, Rotary, RiverMead, Ball Bearing, the Well School and Scott-Farrar are among the groups that adopt significant road frontage.
Contact the Conservation Commission at 603-547-7978 to join a team or to sign up for a few stretches of the town’s 90 miles of roads that need volunteers. Those unable to participate in the Earth Day pickup can deliver blue bags filled with roadside trash to the recycling center before or after the official period without the usual requirement of separation for recycling.
Participants should wear gloves and bright clothing (“hunter orange” encouraged) and always be mindful of traffic.
