Peterborough Bad HVAC belt triggers fire alarm at RiverMead

A bad belt in a rooftop HVAC unit triggered the fire alarm in a RiverMead building Monday afternoon, according to Peterborough Fire Chief Ed Walker.

Crews were summoned to the site around 1:43 p.m. after a fire alarm went off and someone spotted smoke on a rooftop, Walker said. However, the smoke was coming from a bad belt on a rooftop HVAC unit and not the building.

The fire department quickly isolated the smoking unit, Walker said.
