First Friday returns to downtown Peterborough March 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. and later.

Activities will include a Firelight Theater workshop on Main Street in the Guernsey Building. Participants will explore the power of the hat to invite play, characters and maybe a few stories and laughs. Joseph’s Coat on Grove Street will feature birdhouses and the start of another color sale with 20% off green things in the store.

Peterborough Town Library at 2 Concord St. will host an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. for the “Astonishing Moments in Nearby Nature: Marquetry by Craig Altobello” exhibition, which will be on display through April 30. Additionally, Altobello will be offering an artist talk on Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m. to discuss his creative process and do a demonstration of how he creates his pieces. Fifteen percent of the sales from the exhibit will benefit the Harris Center’s bird conservation projects.

At 7:30 p.m., MacDowell Downtown at Bass Hall on Grove Street features artist-in-residence Allison Akootchook Warden. Warden is an Iñupiaq interdisciplinary artist and a tribal member of the Native village of Kaktovik, Alaska. While at MacDowell, she will work on “Iluqaisa!” a series of performance art videos created for museum installation.

Peterborough Town House will offer information on the proposed new fire and rescue station.  Director of Planning and Building Danica Melone will be on hand to answer you questions. There will also be children’s activities.
