A Londonderry man faces charges that include aggravated driving while intoxicated after an accident Monday night in which police say he hit the Grove Street Bridge in Peterborough and several hedges in front of Putnam Park before finally hitting the flag pole in front of the Peterborough Post Office.

According to the Peterborough Police Department, at 11:05 p.m. Monday, Peterborough Police Officer Jesse Byam saw a vehicle traveling at high speeds collide with the roundabout on Route 101 outside of Shaw’s supermarket. The vehicle then traveled up and over the roundabout, almost hitting Byam’s cruiser, and continued down Route 101 towards Peterborough. The driver has been identified as Owen Stowell, 21, of Londonderry.

Byam, who had been assisting someone with a broken-down vehicle, followed Stowell, who police say turned left onto Grove Street at the intersection of Route 101 and Route 202. Other officers were notified. Stowell’s car, a 2017 BMW, sustained heavy damage, and he was transported by ambulance to Monadnock Community Hospital to be checked for a knee injury.

After a medical exam at the hospital, Stowell was charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, aggravated driving while intoxicated, conduct after an accident, disobeying an officer, reckless driving and open container in a vehicle. He has been released on bail and has a court date July 22 at Hillsborough County Superior Court North.

Man injured after being hit by car

The Peterborough Police Department received a call at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday that a man had been struck by a motor vehicle on Southfield Lane in Peterborough. The call came from Kristen Anderson, 34, of Peterborough, whose car bumped into Pedro Sandin-Fremaint,73, of Peterborough.

According to Peterborough Police Chief Scott Guinard, Anderson was stopped at a stop sign while exiting Prescott Hill Apartments onto Southfield Lane. She reportedly dropped her phone in the car, and in an attempt to retrieve it, took her eyes off the road for a moment. Her car rolled forward and hit Sadin-Fremaint, who fell to the ground. Anderson’s car did not drive over Sadin-Fremaint, Guinard said.

Sadin-Fremaint sustained facial injuries and a broken leg. He was transported to Monadnock Community Hospital by ambulance to be treated for his injuries. There have been no updates on his condition.

Anderson has been charged with negligent driving. There was no damage to the vehicle.
