The renovation and expansion of the Peterborough Town Library, designed by Annum Architects, earned an Honor Award for Excellence in Architecture Design at the American Institute of Architects NH 2024 Design Awards. The award was announced at the Capital Center for the Arts Bank of NH Stage in Concord.

The awards jury praised the project, stating, “The design celebrates the rich history of the original building in its use of similar building materials, proportions, and rhythm. The jury was struck by the restraint in the building materials palette, and particularly by the thoughtful and sensitive orientation of fenestration to create either lively public spaces or contemplative reading areas.”

Architects Steve Gerrard and Ashley Merchant accepted the award on behalf of Annum. Representatives from Harvey Construction, including James Brennan and Keith Kelley, also attended. The library features five meeting rooms, a community wing, an innovative biomass heating and cooling systemย and spaces for patrons of all ages.

“We are thrilled the Peterborough Town Library project has been recognized by AIANH,” stated Library Director Corinne Chronopoulos. “Annum Architects helped us create a thriving community space. We are averaging over 200 visits per day, and every square inch of the building is optimized for learning and connection.”

The library, completed in 2021, has seen a 20% increase in circulation and an 86% rise in meeting room bookings.ย
