Peterborough Town Library, 2 Concord St., has announced its free Natural NH Winter Series for 2025, sponsored by anonymous donors. The series, focusing on environmentalism and conservation, features four programs held on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.
The series begins on Jan. 23 with “Becoming Wolf: The Eastern Coyote in New England,” presented by Chris Schadler. The program explores the ecology and behavior of Eastern coyotes, the potential return of the Eastern wolf and how the two might coexist. Schadler is a co-founder of the NH Wildlife Coalition, the state representative for Project Coyote, and chairs the Webster Conservation Commission.
On Feb. 27, Dylan Summers presents “Trail History and Trail Design,” a look at the history of trail-building in the Northeast. Attendees will learn how trails are maintained and about innovations to ensure their longevity. Summers manages trail maintenance and recreation infrastructure projects for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests.
Dave Anderson, senior director of education for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, leads the March 27 program, “Maple Sugaring: Myth, Magic, and Realities.” Anderson will share the science and lore of maple sugaring, including stories from his own sugarhouse at Meetinghouse Hill Tree Farm in South Sutton. Syrup and pancakes will be provided.
The series concludes on April 24 with “Future Proofing Your Landscape and Woodlot,” presented by Steven Roberge, an extension forestry specialist and professor at UNH Cooperative Extension.
Library parking is not guaranteed, and patrons are encouraged to use the Depot Square or Riverwalk lots. For more information, visit peterboroughtownlibrary.org or call 603-924-8040.
