Peterborough is searching for a new finance director after accepting the resignation of Brenda Fox Howard, who has been in the position since December of 2016.

“It was a short term she was with us, but I wish her success in the future,” Select Board Chair Barbara Miller said.

Miller said during Peterborough’s Select Board meeting Tuesday night Fox Howard will be pursuing a new career opportunity. She will continue in her current position through Jan. 31.

When contacted, Fox Howard declined to comment.

The finance director’s main job is supervising the financial affairs of the town. It is the only full-time finance staff position in Peterborough.

Peterborough is currently in the midst of preparing its budget for voting approval in May. The finance director is involved in several aspects of the budget process, according to the job description, including preparing reports of employees’ wages and benefits, preparing documentation for all bond, loans and leases and tracks the town’s debt services.

“It will have an impact to the budget process,” Town Administrator Rodney Bartlett said.

Bartlett said it’s likely the position will be in transition for up to three months with the hiring process and training a new candidate. The town will be working with the existing financial staff to cover the financial director’s responsibilities during that time.

With staff coverage, Bartlett said the impact on the budget process will not be “significant.”

The salary range for the finance director is $67,311-$101,964, based on experience and education, and includes a benefits package.

A full job description and application process is available on the Peterborough town website.
