In honor of National Safety Month, the Jaffrey police, fire and ambulance, along with state agencies, are holding a Safety Expo this Sunday.

The Jaffrey Police Department, along with Reality Check, the Jaffrey Fire Department, the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, New Hampshire Fish and Game and the New Hampshire State Police will all be present on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Jaffrey Fire Station.

The expo is part of an ongoing community outreach by the Jaffrey Police Department. Last month, the department held a “Cone with a Cop” event at the Station 16 ice cream stand, where children could have a free cone of ice cream and meet Jaffrey officers.

The department, in partnership with Reality Check in Jaffrey, has decided to organize an event each month to give the community an opportunity to meet the officers that serve them.

Cruisers, the ambulance, fire trucks, and New Hampshire Fish and Game boat will be available for children to explore.

Each organization will have a table with a representative to discuss a specific aspect of safety they deal with in their line of work.

“The main idea is to engage with the kids in a fun environment, and to engage with them about safety as a whole,” said Jaffrey Police Lt. Chris LeBrecque. “Fish and Game could cover swimming, hiking or ATV and boat safety. Our department will be talking about things like safely crossing the road and bike safety. The Fire Department will probably be talking about fire safety, anything from camp fires to safety in the home and what to do in an emergency.”

Other community outreach plans with the Jaffrey Police Department this summer include tables at the Jaffrey Riverfest on July 30, and a bike rodeo at JaffJam on Aug. 13. On Aug. 28, officer Kelsea Ashmore will be presenting a forensic science lab at the Jaffrey Public Library.
