Two motorcyclists were seen operating at dangerously high speeds in New Ipswich on Sunday.

New Ipswich police officer David Myer was patrolling on Route 124, near the Sharon town line on Sunday shortly after 3 p.m., when two sport-style motorcycles, one of which was yellow, passed him headed into town from Sharon.

Myer said the motorcycles were recorded on his radar going 118 miles per hour in the 50-mile-per-hour zone.

“By the time we were able to get behind them, they were out of our sight, and we weren’t able to make contact with the bikes. But if anyone has any information, please let us know, because we would like to have a conversation with those gentlemen,” Myer said.

Myer said police were unable to pursue the vehicles, as the operators were out of sight and unable to see the blue lights before he was able to try to perform a stop, and police were unable to locate them again.

“They had such a gain it may have taken a while to catch up to them,” Myer said.

Myer said he searched for the bikes into downtown New Ipswich, without finding them. Myer said the bikes may have turned off before that point, as police did not receive any reports of bikes passing cars or speeding into town.

In New Hampshire, operating a vehicle in excess of 100 miles per hour is considered reckless driving, which includes stiffer fines than speeding. A reckless driving fine is at least $500 and includes a 60-day license revocation and six demerit points on the driver’s motor vehicle record. A second offense results in a $750 fine and a loss of license for between 60 days and a year.

Myer encouraged drivers to report erratic behavior to their local police departments, with a license number if possible.

If you have any information on the two riders sighted on Sunday, contact the New Ipswich Police Department at 878-2771.
