A person connected with the Jaffrey Grade School has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a district announcement made on Friday afternoon.

The district did not confirm whether the person who tested positive was a student, staff or teacher, but said they were “within the Jaffrey Grade School community.”

According to a message sent to parents on Friday, and also posted on the Jaffrey-Rindge Cooperative website and Facebook page, the individual who tested positive hasn’t been in the Jaffrey Grade School Building for the past four days.

Contact tracing to determine if the individual had close contact with anyone else in the school has been conducted by the state’s Division of Public Health Services, and those who were found to have had contact with the individual have been asked to quarantine.

Classes are expected to continue as normal next week.

“This positive case has a minimal impact on the Jaffrey Grade School community and therefore, there is no need to close down the school,” wrote Superintendent Reuben Duncan in the district-wide communication.

According to the district’s reopening framework, students or staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 are required to remain at home for at least 10 days if they are symptomatic, and 14 days if they are asymptomatic, and can return to school after they have been fever-free for 24 hours or are symptom free.

Jaffrey Grade School has undergone a cleaning and disinfecting process by both the district’s usual custodial staff, as well as an additional contracted cleaning service which has been assisting on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
