Presidential Primary Tavern Nights coming to Peterborough Jan. 30

Are you an undecided voter tired of being talked at by presidential hopefuls? Thursday’s Presidential Tavern Night at Peterborough’s Post and Beam Brewery presents an alternative.

Thursday’s event is one of five scheduled statewide, aimed at creating a safe place for voters to have civil, respectful discussions about the candidates.

While plenty of presidential candidates have stopped in at the Brewery during the runup to the Feb. 11 primary, no candidates will appear in person at Thursday’s event. Instead, campaigns will provide a staff member or local supporter to open dialogues with local voters on why they are leaning one way or the other or answer questions they have about different candidates.

The only literature allowed in the tavern must be from that specific candidate and can only discuss that candidate and make no comparisons or statements about other candidates. Since the Tavern Night is considered a civic activity, rather than a campaign event, no political signage will be allowed on the premises, so at the very least, attendees will have a brief respite from the signs dotting seemingly each and every roadside in the region.

Peterborough’s event takes place on Thursday, Jan. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Post and Beam Brewery. The event is co-sponsored by the Peterborough chapter of the League of Women Voters and the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript.
