Reality Check in Jaffrey has been chosen to receive a three-year federal Building Communities of Recovery grant from the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration.

According to Reality Check founder Mary Drew, the BCOR grant is a first for New Hampshire, and will provide $300,000 per year.

"BCOR funds will enable us to expand recovery support services and programs, including supported referrals to treatment, medication-assisted recovery, in-person and tele-health drug and alcohol and mental health counseling and referrals to other community resources for housing, employment, child care, transportation, legal help and family reunification."

Drew stated that research shows evidence-based recovery supports and comprehensive interventions increase the likelihood of successful, long-term recovery and reduce the likelihood of relapse and setbacks. To reach populations most impacted by addiction, improve access to services and enhance long-term outcomes, Drew stated that Reality Check partners with statewide recovery community organizations, treatment centers, Cheshire County House of Corrections, regional employers, college systems and the health and medical field.

"The Building Communities of Recovery grant aligns perfectly with our mission, vision and philosophy, and we look forward to collectively making long-term impacts, positive social change and reducing stigma for people who struggle with mental health challenges and substance-use issues." she stated.

New Hampshire’s congressional delegation announced the grant, along with $425,000 to the City of Dover to prioritize substance misuse prevention, Wednesday morning.

“New Hampshire has been on the front lines of the substance use disorder epidemic for years, so our response to finally turn the tide must be comprehensive and consistent. These federal awards tackle both ends of the crisis – prevention and treatment – to address the full scope of the  epidemic,” stated Democratic U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.
