Nicholas Lavoie was recently sworn in as a new full-time officer in the Rindge Police Department.
Lavoie has 10 years of experience in law enforcement in the state, having previously served in Brookline for eight years as a full-time officer and two years as a part-time officer. He will begin serving in Rindge after a brief training period.
Previous to his career in law enforcement, Lavoie worked in pest control.
“Becoming a police officer wasn’t something that I grew up knowing that I wanted to do,” Lavoie said. “It was more of a feeling of, ‘I want to try that.’ I like to try a bit of everything. Then fast-forward 10 years, and here I am.”
Lavoie said he has come to enjoy the work, particularly meeting and interacting with people. Brookline is a similar town to Rindge, and Lavoie said he’ll be bringing his rural policing experience to his new town.
“I think it’s nice for people to be able to know their police by first name,” Lavoie said.
Lavoie said he was looking for new opportunities when Rindge was hiring, and he likes the policing philosophy of Chief Rachel Malynowski.
“The environment of this station is excellent,” Lavoie said.
In his off hours, Lavoie enjoys being outdoors and hiking, fishing and camping.
