Ingalls Memorial Library in Rindge is hosting a series of book fairs the first three Saturdays in December, featuring local poets and authors and their works.

The idea began when the library wanted to uplift one of its own – library assistant Catherine “Kate” Zebrowski, who recently published her second novel, “Through a Bakery Window.”

Zebrowski published her book, a historical mystery piece “loosely based” on a true story in Worcester County, through a small publisher, without much opportunity for distribution or promotion, she said.

It’s a problem a lot of local authors, who self-publish or publish through small publishers, run into, Zebrowski said. And while she and Library Director Donna Straitiff talked about an event to offer her book to residents of Rindge, the idea grew – What if, instead of one author, the library promoted a selection of local authors?

“We’re all about books here, and to have the opportunity to meet with local authors, meet them and purchase their book from them, it seemed a good way to support the authors and the concept of ‘buy local,’” Zebrowski said. “Local authors are always looking for places to let people know about their books. I’ve done meet-and-greets at small bookstores and libraries – something like this is really helpful.”

On Dec. 4, authors featured include Zebrowski, M. Susan Patterson, Zoe Wroten-Heinzmann, Matt Landry, Bill Chatfield, S.M. Stevens, Mimi Bull and Tory McCagg.

On Dec. 11, Zebrowski, Landrey and Chatfield, Bull and McCagg are also joined by Eric Poor, Linda Salvato Bussiere, Brian D. Campbell and G. Sherman Morrison.

On Dec. 18, Zebrowski, Wroten-Heinzmann, Landry and Chatfield are joined by Sharon Healy-Yang, Christopher J. DiLoreto, Dan Szczesny and M. Allyson Szabo.

Each fair is scheduled to take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tables with books will be spread out throughout the library. The library asks that visitors to the events respect the authors’ and poets’ wishes and wear masks when meeting authors who are wearing masks.
