Rindge has received a $91,850 grant from the New Hampshire Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) for maintenance to the town’s historic Meetinghouse.

LCHIP supports both historic preservation and land conservation projects. On Monday, Rindge announced that the Meetinghouse project was one of 25 projects that will be supported by a total of $3.7 million, which will go toward rehabilitating a total of 12 historic buildings and conserving more than 4,300 acres of farmland, timber and ecologically significant parcels.

Rindge’s portion of the grant will support work planned for two of the town’s historic buildings next year, including the repair and painting of the steeple on the Meetinghouse. The work will be part of a larger project to paint the entire exterior of the Meetinghouse and repoint masonry. The horse sheds, located directly behind the Meetinghouse, are also slated to be completely repainted, using funds allocated from the state’s Moose Plate Grant fund.

“We are very appreciative of LCHIP’s investment to the Rindge Meetinghouse. This generous investment will allow the town and its residents to continue to utilize the building as a cultural resource for the community,” stated Town Administrator Lori Rautiola. “The LCHIP award will enable the Town of Rindge to continue to be good stewards in caring for the ongoing maintenance of the historical asset.”

LCHIP grant recipients must match each dollar contributed with at least one added dollar and complete the funded projects according to the program’s standards. This year’s $3.7 million awards will be matched by more than $9.3 million from other public and private sources.
