A Rindge woman was fatally injured in a head-on crash in Taylors, South Carolina on Tuesday.

Patricia Tenney, 75, of Rindge, was the front-seat passenger in one of the vehicles and was pronounced dead at the Greenville Memorial Hospital Tuesday night.

Six other people involved in the crash, including a child, were injured and taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.

In an audio recording released by South Carolina Department of Safety, Trooper Joe Hovis said the accident occurred at 6:15 p.m. on Locust Hill Road in Taylors, South Carolina.

Jacob Thomas Whitt, 20, of Abbeville, South Carolina, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck east on Locust Hill Road, when he allegedly attempted to take evasive action to avoid a vehicle stopped in traffic. He crossed the center line and collided head-on with an oncoming 2011 Cadillac driven by Natalie Jean Pakkala, 41, of Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

Tenney was the front-seat passenger in the Cadillac. Two other passengers in the Cadillac, Donna Leblanc, 67, of Gardner, Mississippi, and a 12-year-old, were both injured and taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Two passengers in Whitt’s vehicle, Sawyer Evans, 20, of Greenwood, South Carolina, and Jacob Hines, 20, of Gaffney, South Carolina, were both also taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital with injuries.

All occupants of both vehicles were wearing their seatbelts, Hovis said.

Whitt has been charged with driving on the left of the centerline, Hois said.
