PeterboroughScholarship for trade students

Do you know a graduating senior who wants to continue his or her studies with a technical or trades program? The Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce is taking applications until Friday, May 12 for its Chester S. Bowles Career Development/Technical Scholarship. This annual scholarship, named in honor of longtime director of the Region 14 Applied Technology Center, is for area students who are planning to pursue a technical career or certificate program and hope to live or work in the Monadnock region. The two-part scholarship is awarded to a resident (under the age of 21) of the town of Antrim, Bennington, Dublin, Francestown, Greenfield, Hancock, Jaffrey, Peterborough, Rindge, Sharon or Temple who will be attending a formal educational program designed to prepare the student for a specific trade or vocation. The program may be offered through a community or junior college, a technical or trades school, or in some cases a four-year college or university. The award consists of $1,250 in the first year of study and an additional $1,250 in the second year for students continuing on in good standing within the same area of study. Applications are reviewed in light of a student’s work ethic, career goals, community and school activities, and academic performance. Additional consideration is given for those who plan to live and work in the region, and who are pursuing a two-year technical career or trades program. Scholarship applications are available at the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce office (on Route 101 at the intersection with Route 202) or at Conant and ConVal High School guidance offices. Forms are also available online at www.peterboroughchamber.com. Deadline for scholarship application submission is Friday, May 12, and the winner will be announced in early June.
