The Jaffrey-Rindge School Board approved student and staff handbooks for each of the four schools in the district, as well as a program of studies for Conant High School.

The board met on Monday to discuss the handbooks and program of studies, among other things. All handbooks and the program of studies were approved unanimously, albeit with some minor tweaks along the way.

“I like that overall, things are in the same format,” said board chair Laurel McKenzie, relative to the staff handbooks.

Most of the questions from the school board came when discussing the high school’s program of studies, with board members having questions about some of the descriptions of courses.

The board tasked the school with further working on some of the math descriptions throughout the year.

The board also asked the middle and high school to align staff handbooks with the collective bargaining agreements with the district’s unions relative to the number of undisclosed sick days allowed for different staff members.

The board supported a recommendation from Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School Principal Robert Clark about school photographs and identification quotes.

Clark submitted the recommendation as a bid award, although McKenzie said that wasn’t needed, as the district would not be paying any money to Geskus Photography.

Four bid in total were submitted, according to Clark’s proposal. Clark said Geskus was awarded the bid two years ago and he and other school administrators have noted a “favorable overall service” with Geskus.

The new contract will be for another two years.

Superintendent Reuben Duncan shared an update from EEI, the company completing lighting and heating upgrades throughout the district.

The document passed out at the meeting shows that all projects are at least 50-percent complete, with the exception of lighting upgrades at Rindge Memorial School.

The document says lighting upgrades at RMS will take place during the second shift and weekends.
