Tuesday morning’s weather hovered around freezing, creating black ice and slippery conditions on the region’s roadways.

Between 7:25 a.m. and 8:39 a.m., Peterborough experienced a number of cars off the road, including two school bus accidents. Peterborough Police Chief Scott Guinard said it was an “all hands on deck morning.”

On Route 101 at the roundabout by Shaw’s, the driver of a westbound bus lost control and slid into the guardrail. There were 13 passengers on board and no one was injured. The bus was still drivable after the accident and continued its route.

The second bus accident occurred on Elm Street and Route 101. A vehicle followed by a school bus slid off the road while taking a right and lost control off Elm Street. The bus collided with the vehicle, and a vehicle behind the bus slid into the bus. Guinard said both vehicles and the bus sustained damage, but there were no injuries to the passengers on the bus or in the vehicles.

Guinard said there were five other accidents that involved slipping off the road in Peterborough. There were no reported injuries at any of the scenes.

Bennington Police Chief Jason LePine said there were two accidents in Bennington.

There was a five-vehicle accident on Route 202 near Antrim Road, and Antrim assisted the Bennington police in responding to the accident. A southbound Chevy Trax had stopped in the road and was hit from behind by a Chevy Silverado. The Silverado crossed into the northbound lane and hit three additional vehicles -- a Ford Transit van, a Subaru Outback and a Subaru Crosstrek -- before coming to a stop. Emergency units arrived at the scene, where the driver of the Silverado sustained a minor injury, but no one was transported to the hospital. The Silverado, Outback and Crosstrek were towed.

Also due to the icy conditions, a tow truck slid off Route 47 and struck a utility pole. No injuries were reported, but the accident caused temporary power outages. Eversource was contacted to repair the damage.
