Building Inspector Scott Tenney will be taking up a secondary job as a Select Board member.

His now-fellow Select Board members Carla Mary and Doug Reardon made it official on Wednesday, during the most recent Select Board meeting, when they unanimously agreed to appoint him to the position, according to Town Administrator Tara Sousa.

“I want to help grow Greenville,” said Tenney in an interview on Monday. “I want to aid and help Greenville get back to where it used to be as a nice bedroom community.”

Tenney was sworn in officially by the deputy town clerk on Wednesday, and was able to join the other two members for the remainder of Wednesday’s meeting.

Tenney and his wife, who is from Greenville, moved to town in 2009 from Manchester, into the house his wife grew up in. The couple have a three-year-old daughter named McKayla, and a second daughter on the way.

Tenney will fill the position until March, when the position will be placed on the ballot. Tenney said he does intent to run for that position to fill the remainder of the term, which ends in 2019. He is serving as a replacement for former board member Steve Spratt, who resigned from the board earlier this spring.

Tenney is currently the town’s building inspector. Full-time employees are not allowed to serve on the Select Board, but as Tenney only works for the town part-time, he is able to continue in both roles, and plans to do so, according to Sousa.

Tenney also serves on the town’s Planning Board, and has since 2011. He will continue serving on that board in his capacity as a Select Board, which is allowed to have a voting ex-officio member on the board.

In addition to his work as Greenville’s building inspector, Tenney also works full time as the building official and health officer in Amherst.
