PETERBOROUGHSculpture exhibition coming to town

The Peterborough Night Market, organized by MAXT Makerspace and their partners Friends of Public Art (FPA) are hosting a sculpture exhibition in downtown Peterborough.

The group is looking for five sculptures that will be displayed in prominent locations around downtown Peterborough between Aug. 1 and Oct. 10. The sculptures will also be a highlighted feature of the Peterborough Night Market, which occurs on the evening of Friday, Aug. 11.

The theme of this year’s market is Retro Funk and Soul, and the group is looking for any works that play with the themes of funk and soul music or capture a retro-futuristic vibe.  Sculptors 18 or older of all backgrounds, mediums and experience levels are encouraged to participate.

“We are thrilled to work with Friends of Public Art to bring some much needed art to brighten Peterborough’s historic downtown and celebrate the fun of Night Market,” stated MAXT’s Executive Director Roy Schlieben, “We look forward to seeing what artists in our region submit, and look forward to growing this program in the future!”

The deadline for the application is 11:59 p.m. June 30. Applications will be reviewed by a jury of local artisans in the Monadnock region. Those pieces selected will receive a stipend of at least $250 to assist with their installation costs.

Interested artists should go to maxtmakerspace.org/peterborough-public-art to review the full details and to submit their applications. For information, send email to Schlieben at roy@maxtmakerspace.org and pnmsculpture@gmail.com.
