Sean Ryan has resigned from his role as executive director of the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce.

Laura Akerley, the chair of the chamber’s board of directors, announced Monday morning via an email to chamber members that Ryan has accepted a new job and will “pursue an exciting new chapter in his professional life beginning on April 15.”

“Opportunities arrive for people at different points. We wanted to do everything possible to make the transition easiest for Sean,” Akerley said in an interview Monday afternoon. “… He’s been an ambassador for Peterborough and a great resource for businesses in our community.”

Ryan was executive director of the Greater Peterborough Chamber since November 2014. Akerley said Ryan gave his notice “recently,” but would not give a specific date.

“We will miss Sean’s enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment and wish him well as he takes on a new challenge,” Akerley said in a press release. “We are proud of what we achieved together and look forward to what the future of the Chamber holds.”

Akerley said Ryan has moved on to another position but would not confirm the job or if it was local.

“Serving  as the Executive Director for Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce has been one of the most valuable experiences I have had,” Ryan said in the release.

Attempts to reach Ryan on Monday were unsuccessful.

According to his LinkedIn account, Ryan is starting a new position as Director of Sales Marketing at Marriott International.

Akerley said the board has already engaged candidates to fill in as an interim director.

“Our goal is to keep the office open daily and business going as usual without interruption,” Akerley said.
