One month after being elected, John Wood, Dublin’s representative to the ConVal School Board, resigned, citing work obligations.

The Dublin Select Board has appointed Bill Gurney to complete Wood’s term for the following 11 months. Gurney has three decades of experience in education, having been a principal at the Westmoreland School and co-superintendent in SAU 29 in Keene. He has also served as president of the Vermont Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and executive director of the Monadnock Early Learning Center.

Most recently, Gurney was a member of the Dublin Education Advisory Committee, which researched the issue of whether the town should withdraw from the ConVal School District. On Wednesday, Gurney expressed optimism for the work ahead.

“I’m honored to be representing Dublin in this position, and look forward to working with the board to move the district forward,” said Gurney.

In other news from Monday’s Select Board meeting, Teresa Imhoff of the Dublin Community Center raised the prospect of restarting Dublin Days, a community celebration of the town’s village life and history.

“Let’s try to create a key version of it for starters,” said Imhoff, noting a date of July 26 has already been identified as a possibility. “We all know it takes more than a small group of people to make things happen.

A forum on the matter will be held at the Dublin Community Center on Sunday, April 27, at 4:30 p.m.

The Select Board also announced that it is requesting bids on the Transfer Station Improvement Project. The work includes replacing the lower base for the trash compactor and the device’s control office, repairing the front of the recycling wall, windows and a door, as well as paving, which will involve striping and drainage. The deadline for submitting proposals is May 19 at 4 p.m., and questions should be directed to Town Administrator Kate Fuller.
