Hancock is moving forward with efforts to study consolidation of local police departments.

At Monday’s Select Board meeting, Town Administrator Jonathan Coyne said he was creating an application for residents to complete if they wish to serve on the committee that will study the issue.

The prospect of merging police departments in Greenfield, Bennington and Hancock has been discussed, due to ongoing staffing issues in recent years.

In another matter, Hancock does not currently have an official town Facebook page, and the notion of creating one was discussed.

“If we had one, it would have to be informational,” said board member Virginia Smith.

“We’d want to avoid something that would draw comments from people on it.” Police Chief Tom Horne concurred.

Coyne agreed to look into the possibility.
