Rindge planning board approves senior housing complex

The Rindge Planning Board has unanimously approved plans for an 18-unit senior housing complex to be built off Sonja Drive. 

The board approved the Hidden Acres Senior Housing development during a meeting on June 19. The approval is subject to nine conditions, more than half of which are related to the applicant – Navian Development – providing for painted traffic lines on Sonja Drive.

“The big concern was traffic flow on Sonja Drive,” said chair Bruce Donati on Tuesday afternoon. 

Plans include one four-unit and seven two-unit buildings and 12 detached storage garage buildings, along with parking spaces and driveways.

The complex is planned to be built on a 10.91-acre parcel of land behind KFC/Taco Bell, Valvoline, GFA Federal Credit Union and other nearby businesses. 

Conditions of the approval will require Navian Development to provide a painted center line, side line, and two stop lines on Sonja Drive. The present and future owners of the senior housing property will be responsible for maintaining all road markings and signage in the above conditions, per a condition of approval. 

Other conditions include: the obtaining of all applicable governmental permits; conforming to the NH Enhanced 911 naming and numbering system; and meeting with Director of Public and Life Safety Rick Donovan to ensure public and life safety issues are addressed. 

Traffic flow on Sonja Drive was the biggest concern on the board’s part during the public hearing, which prompted a site visit on June 11.
