Three people have been arrested and charged with rioting, with another arrest pending, after an armed confrontation on Peterborough Street in Jaffrey last month.

According to police information, provided through a request by the Ledger-Transcript, on Aug. 19 just after 3:30 p.m., the Jaffrey Police Department responded to Peterborough Street, in the area of the Rite Aid, for a report of a disturbance.

Four people were involved with the incident, including two who were armed, one with an AR-15 rifle and the other with a baseball bat.

Police reported that there were no shots fired in the incident, and no one was injured. All people involved in the incident have been identified by police, and both weapons were seized as evidence.

Based on statements of the four people involved in the confrontation, as well as independent witnesses, three adults have been arrested and charged with riot. The fourth party has been identified and also is expected to be charged. According to New Hampshire law, a person is guilty of riot if two or more people engage in “tumultuous or violent conduct” and “purposely or recklessly create a substantial risk of causing public alarm.”

Jonathan Cox, 30, of Jaffrey, Jonathan Kahaian, 18, of Jaffrey, Zachary Grant, 25, of Jaffrey have each been arrested and charged with riot. Cox and Kahain have also been charged with criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, and Grant has been charged with an additional count of breach of bail.

A 17-year-old boy from Jaffrey was also involved in the incident, and charges of riot against him are pending.
