The Peterborough Police Department is investigating a sexual assault complaint against a resident of RiverMead in Peterborough filed by an underage employee.
The complaint was filed in late June, according to Detective Chris Martin, who is working on the case. Martin said the case is still being investigated and that the full report was unavailable at this time.
RiverMead is a not-for-profit continuing-care retirement community, which according to its website “advocates for an enriched lifestyle with cultural and educational opportunities” and includes 40 cottages, 24 villas and 117 apartments on 90 acres.
RiverMead CEO Lara Shea said that a complaint of a sexual assault was filed, but that because of confidentiality laws she could not confirm the employee’s name or position.
“When incidents happen we work with all interested parties,” Shea said, adding that not releasing names is not a sign that RiverMead management doesn’t care. “We’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. It doesn’t mean we’re uncaring, but only that we’re in a position of protecting both sides.”
