The editors of “Smoky Quartz,” a journal of literature and art, are hosting a reading of poetry and prose from the “Smoky Quartz Tenth Anniversary Anthology” Sunday, March 3, at 2 p.m. 

The public is invited to attend this free online event. Those interested should send email to mwgsmokyquartz@gmail.com for the link to the reading.

According to editor Deborah Murphy, “The anthology celebrates 10 years of ‘Smoky Quartz’ publishing the work of writers and artists with ties to New Hampshire. Many of the contributors live and work right here in the Monadnock region. We are fortunate to have so much local talent for the journal.”

The poets reading at the event include Liz Ahl, Joan Doran, George Drew, Carlene Gadapee, Elizabeth Gauffreau, Jimmy Pappas and Carla Schwartz. They will be joined by short story author Tina Rapp. Artwork from the anniversary issue will also be featured.

“Smoky Quartz” is open for submissions to the spring 2024 issue until March 15. The editorial team for this issue includes Deborah Murphy, Deni Dickler and Fred Gerhard. Each of the editors is a published writer.

“Smoky Quartz,” founded in 2012, is published by the Monadnock Writers’ Group. The journal is named after New Hampshire’s state gem. It promotes writers and artists with ties to the Granite State. Each issue of the journal includes poetry, prose and a selection of art and photography. The fall 2023 and past issues, along with submission guidelines, are available for review at smokyquartz.org.
