The ConVal girls’ soccer game Monday night against Keene was a tale of two halves, with the Cougars eventually coming out on top, 4-2.

ConVal controlled the first half and went up 3-0 through goals by Haley Mathewson in the 17th minute (assist by Clara Wilsher), Eliza Bull in the 26th minute off a rebounded shot by Mathewson and Mathewson scoring her second from outside the penalty box in the 34th minute off an assist by Allie Burgess.

Keene came back strong in the second half and scored in the 57th minute, putting ConVal under much more pressure defensively. Chloe Ward made it 4-1 in the 62nd minute off an assist by Eliza Bull and a run into the penalty box.

Keene scored again in the 71st minute, making the final score 4-2.

ConVal's goalie Wrayana Covey had six saves.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Boys take fourth at Jamie Martin Invitational

The ConVal boys had a strong showing in their first race of the season, finishing fourth overall at the Jamie Martin Invitational on Tuesday.

William Simard finished first overall with a time of 16 minutes, 40 seconds, almost a minute ahead of the next runner. Jamie Post finished fourth overall with a time of 17:48. Nathan Klonel, Mason Deschenes and freshman runner Marcus Jordan rounded out the top five ConVal runners. With strong showings from their top runners, the team finished 4th overall.

Injuries left the ConVal girls with just four runners entered in the race. Elizabeth Petrov was the top ConVal runner, finishing 35th overall with a time of 27:13. Whitney Adair finished just behind in 36th place with a time of 27:14. Sara Mackie finished 55th with a time of 30:29, and Brielle Proctor finished 59th with a time of 31:28.

Both teams race again on Saturday at the Coach Korcoulis Invitational.
