Senior Colton Ham won the 1500 meters, junior B.J. Smith won the 3000 meters and sophomore Rindal PierreCanel finished in the top five in both the long jump and triple jump on Saturday, as the Franklin Pierce University men’s track & field team opened the outdoor season at the Wesleyan Spring Classic.
Ham and Smith picked up the Ravens’ two victories on the track on Saturday. Ham turned in a time of 4:03.46 to win the 1500 meters, while Smith stopped the clock at 8:50.69 to win the 3000 meters.
Meanwhile, in field events, PierreCanel was busy amassing a pair of topfive finishes. He was second in the triple jump by putting together a mark of 13.27 meters, and placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.38 meters.
Joining PierreCanel in the topfive of the triple jump was junior Cody Steed, who turned in a mark of 12.45 meters to finish fifth. Franklin Pierce picked up two further topfive finishes in field events at Wesleyan. Junior John Delahanty tied for fourth in the pole vault by clearing 3.95 meters. Junior Mark Josselyn took fifth in the hammer throw with a heave of 41.96 meters. Back on the track, junior Cory Cataldo placed second in the 400meter hurdles, with a time of 58.16 seconds. Delahanty was also part of a topfive relay finish, as he ran the anchor leg of a 4x400meter relay squad which finished fourth, with a time of 3:33.72. He was joined by sophomore Nicholas Jacques, senior Vincent Biunno and senior Mitchel McNanna.
The Ravens return to the track on Saturday, when they travel to the CCSU Invite in New Britain, Connecticut.
