The Board of Selectmen in Greenville is one shy after Steve Spratt resigned two weeks ago.

Spratt’s letter of resignation is dated March 15, and indicates that he is resigning to focus more time on other ways he thinks he can serve Greenville.

“In the past years it has been my honor to serve as Greenville’s representative to the NH House of Representatives, as a member of the school and planning boards, and most recently as Town Selectman,” he wrote. “It is with regret that I send this letter to you resigning my position of Selectman effective immediately.”

At the deliberative session for the Mascenic Regional School District, Spratt, who was re-elected to represent Greenville on that board March 16, said he was prepared to resign if voters approved the creation of a committee to advise on the district’s budget. That petition did pass, with a vote of 508 to 474, and Spratt has not made a statement yet on his future with Mascenic.

For now, he is still a member of the school board, but no longer sits on the New Hampshire General Court or planning board.

In order to replace Spratt, the board of selectmen will have to appoint someone to fill the seat until the next town election. Spratt’s resignation came too late for the seat to be included on the ballot earlier this month.

In that March 16 election, Carla Mary won to remain on the board, defeating Burton Lund. At the selectmen’s meeting Wednesday, March 22, she was reappointed chairman.

“That’s what happens when you do a good job,” fellow Selectman Doug Reardon said.

Interested candidates are being asked to write a letter to the board outlining their motivations, qualifications and relevant experiences that would make them suitable as a selectman until March 2018. Lund said he is not going to ask to be considered.
