The local chapter of a storage company is offering portable storage boxes to Rindge to serve as extra storage for emergency personnel and as a central location for donations of food and other necessities.
MI-BOX, which is headquartered in Tilton but also has local locations in Fitzwilliam and Merrimack, among other places, has loaned two portable storage boxes to Rindge. One is going to the Rindge Fire Department, for storage of additional medical or bedding supplies that may be needed to prepare for addressing the coronavirus. The other is to be stationed at the Hometown Irving at the intersection of Route 202 and Route 119, to be a drop off and pick up location for donations of food and paper products.
Chris Hand, the operations manager at MI-BOX, said he was approached by Susan Rennie, an employee of MI-BOXโs Worcester location, about using a storage container to create a central spot for a goods exchange. Hand said the company has worked with emergency services in the past, loaning containers to store donations after fires, and said this fit with the companyโs mission.
โWe are willing to be able to help in any way we can. Iโm so proud to be part of a community that knows how to pull together, especially in these unusual and uncertain times. So if a donated MI-BOX can aid in the storage and distribution of essential items, itโs something weโre more than ready to provide,โ Hand said.
The box at the Hometown Irving is expected to officially open for community donations and pick-ups on Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
