Fourteen-year-old Evan Martus of Greenfield recently earned a first-degree recommended black belt and Leslie Inglis of West Peterborough earned a second-degree black belt from Lamy’s Black Belt Academy.

The black belt exam consisted of Martus and Inglis demonstrating their knowledge and proficiency on all aspects of tae kwon do. Prior to the physical portion of the test, they were required to answer questions relating to the history of tae kwon do and Korea. The physical portion of the test involved demonstrating kicks, blocks and strikes, one-steps, patterns, self-defense, sparring and board-breaking techniques.

The test is a two- to three-hour exam followed by a free lunch for all. Martus was first introduced to the Lamys and tae kwon do in an after-school program at Greenfield Elementary School, while Inglis became at student through the Peterborough Recreation Department’s program.

Lamy’s Black Belt Academy is located inside the Monadnock Business Center, 375 Jaffrey Road, Peterborough. For information, call or text 603-672-6568, visit lamysblackbeltacademy.com or like the academy on Facebook.
