The expression is “Think globally and act locally.” One of the reasons that the environment is not a major concern for a majority of people is that it’s so far away. Wildfires out West, the hurricanes down South, droughts (that’s close enough, I guess), record temperatures in 30 states this past year. So when it comes to what we can do here locally, what really could happen, is we could be accessing hydropower 300 miles away.
Elections are close, and the person primarily responsible for us not getting access to hydropower is our current governor. The committee that shot down the Northern Pass bringing 100 percent sustainable power to our home is comprised of a group of handpicked souls he selected. So if you’re a GOP voter, what you could do locally is go to your town hall, become undeclared and for once vote for a Democratic candidate that is looking forward and acting locally.
A current New Hampshire GOP U.S. Senate candidate is just one more example of how far the GOP has gone to win elections, besides the whole gerrymandering thing, which is absolutely unconscionable. This candidate claims it is up to the individual if he or she wants to get vaccinated yet after spending 30 years in the military.
He is pro-life. A good number of us believe a woman’s choice is tantamount. Haven’t we seen enough lying, cheating and dozens of scandals from the GOP? Certainly, we could and should all agree term limits are a necessary thing for anyone running for office.
Last point is the common good thing. Being chill on a plane, getting vaccinated, Social Security, schools, state colleges, libraries, DPWs, fire, police and National Guard are all common good and not socialism.
