A near head-on collision on Route 101 in Temple Monday, Aug. 22, resulted a vehicle sustaining a total loss.
Officer Matt Holland from the Wilton Police Department responded to a one-car crash on Gibbons Highway near Temple Mountain State Reservation at approximately 1:45 p.m. According to police, a driver was heading westbound on Gibbons Highway in a black Nissan Frontier when he veered to the opposite side of the road, causing the driver of a purple Acura MDX to swerve into the guardrail to avoid a head-on collision. The driver operating the Acura landed on the other side of the guardrail and managed to stop just before colliding with the treeline.
New Hampshire Department of Transportation and Peterborough Police offices arrived to the scene following the crash to check on the drivers’ wellbeing and assist in the cleanup of debris that had scattered across Gibbons Highway. Village Mobil Automotive Services in New Ipswich responded to the scene just after 2 p.m. to tow the Acura away.
Police did not release the names of the drivers, but both walked away unscathed. However, the Acura sustained significant damage to the passenger side and front bumpers and the back window was shattered, resulting in a total loss. The Nissan sustained no damage.
