Temple plans to open certain town offices to the public starting May 4. The town’s reopening decisions are all in line with state guidelines with regards to safe reopening, Emergency Management Director Bill McDonnell said.

Masks and social distancing are required for residents conducting business with the Town Clerk, Tax Collector, and Select Board office, and Plexiglas and enhanced air filtration has been installed in the lobby. Town Hall remains off limits for meetings and gatherings for now, McDonnell said, although he anticipates an update in guidance in that regard around May 7. The town opened outdoor town properties on April 15, including the town common, ball field, playground, and tennis courts.

Local case numbers continue to drop, but vulnerable people who haven’t yet been vaccinated “need to remain extremely vigilant,” McDonnell said following a weekly meeting with the state on Wednesday. He encouraged eligible residents to get vaccinated, and referenced the CDC’s recent easing of restrictions for fully vaccinated people.

McDonnell stepped into the EMD role following John Kieley’s resignation. “I’ve been involved with emergency management in the periphery,” McDonnell said. He’s been an amateur radio operator for decades and participates in ARES, the amateur radio emergency service that works with EMDs to provide communications when other modes fail, such as during natural disasters, he said. McDonnell moved to New Hampshire from Massachusetts four years ago.
