Sports Editor Ben Conant took a long look at the fall sports season before selecting the winners of the annual Fall Sports Awards. The following athletes, coaches and teams represent just a handful of the many dedicated individuals in the Monadnock region who give their all to high school sports, and we salute them all, whether they are on this page or not. But, we do think these are some of the best and brightest we have to offer! So read on to see who we picked as the Male and Female Athlete of the Season, Best Coach, Team, and so on.

MALE ATHLETE OF THE FALL

Evan Coyne, ConVal cross-country

Evan Coyne’s tireless dedication to running has been apparent through his four years at ConVal. Training and competing in snow, sleet, rain and most recently, mud, Coyne hit all his goals this year as one of cross-country’s elite.

FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE FALL

Shannon Agonis, Mascenic volleyball

Shannon Agonis missed her entire junior season with a knee injury, but she picked up right where she left off, showing her dominance by leading the Vikings back to the playoffs and earning Second Team All-State honors.

BEST TEAM OF THE FALL

ConVal boys’ soccer, Division II champions

It was a banner year for ConVal — a double banner year, actually, as the Cougars’ unified and boys’ soccer teams both won the state championship. We have to give the nod to the boys’ team here, though, as they finally broke through to earn the program’s first-ever state championship after almost 50 years of trying.

COACH OF THE FALL

Jackie Brown, Conant field hockey

In her second season as Conant head coach, Jackie Brown took the Orioles from a winless program to a highly competitive squad that returned to the playoffs for the first time in five years.

ROOKIE OF THE FALL

Elisabeth Jacob, Wilton-Lyndeborough girls’ soccer

Elisabeth Jacob debuted for the WLC girls and promptly led the team in scoring, netting 17 goals in her freshman season, as the Warriors looked like a whole new team in 2018.

HEART OF A CHAMPION

Andrew Stockwell, ConVal football

ConVal had a tumultuous season, but one thing was for sure: week in and week out, Andrew Stockwell was making all the tackles. The Cougars will be hard-pressed to replace his production at linebacker next year.

COMEBACK ATHLETE OF THE FALL

Isabella Mormando, Conant cross-country

After illness cut her junior year short, Isabella Mormando put in the work to get back where she belonged, and ran strong all the way to the Division III championship meet in Manchester.
