Former Hancock resident and teacher Sue Ingalls will hold an informal conversation about her book, “Language and Learning Anecdotes: A Toddler with Autism,” Thursday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. at Hancock Town Library, 25 Main St.

The book is the true story of John, a 2-year-old toddler, who is inattentive to others, refuses most foods, has unexpected loud outbursts but otherwise rarely vocalizes, struggles in his ability to reach developmental milestones, moves in an uncoordinated manner and prefers to play alone. The story tells the discovery of ways that positively impacted the life of a young child with a diagnosis of autism. John leads his teacher to look at words, language and early learning in an unexpected way, as they navigate developmental challenges and achieve joint success. 

Ingalls is a recently retired early childhood special educator/consultant/service coordinator. She earned several governor’s citations and commendations for her work with young children, in addition to recognition from the state education commissioner. The event is free and open to all.
