Wilton Theater presents W.C. Fields film

Town Hall Theatre, 40 Main St., Wilton, will present the silent film “So’s Your Old Man” (1926), starring W.C. Fields, on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m.

The screening will feature live musical accompaniment by silent film musician Jeff Rapsis.

In the film, Fields plays Sam Bisbee, an inventor of shatter-proof windshield glass. Labeled a crackpot by his neighbors, Bisbee tries to demonstrate his invention to auto executives, only to fail in a mishap. On his way home, he encounters a woman he believes is attempting suicide and intervenes. The woman, however, turns out to be Princess Lescaboura, a member of European royalty. Her later visit to Bisbee’s hometown to thank him creates chaos, sparking gossip and changing his fortunes.

The film, produced at Paramount’s Astoria Studios in New York, also includes Fields’s “golf” routine. It was remade as a sound film in 1934, titled “You’re Telling Me!”

Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $10 to support the program. For information, call 603-654-3456.
