Route 101 in Peterborough was closed for about three hours on Monday morning, after a tractor-trailer unit crashed over the middle of a roundabout, going off the road.

Drew Davis, 38, of Gastonia, North Carolina, was driving a tractor-trailer unit loaded with 60,000 pounds of concrete, traveling east on Route 101, when his brakes failed, he told police.

“He was coming down the hill, and he was unable to stop,” Guinard said.

Davis went over the center of the roundabout next to the shopping plaza, crossed the west lane, going off the road and landing in the marshy area in front of the CVS plaza, Guinard said. Police responded to the scene at about 6 a.m. Monday.

The trailer is owned by Papa Trucking of North Carolina.

The vehicle was brought back onto the road by three heavy-duty tow trucks, and was taken out of service by the New Hampshire State Police Trucking Enforcement division and was towed to Milford for a safety inspection.

Extracting the trailer took several hours, and blocked traffic on Route 101 until it had been brought back onto the roadway. Traffic was detoured through Old Dublin Road while police cleared the crash.

While on the scene, police found Davis is wanted on a warrant for his arrest from the state of Nebraska, charging him with vehicular homicide.

The state of Nebraska does not extradite from New Hampshire, and so police did not arrest Davis, Guinard said.

“Once you get out of the bordering states of Nebraska, it is a non-extraditable warrant, and we were able to determine that at the scene. We could not take him into custody,” Guinard said.
