Tryouts for the South Meadow School boys’ and girls’ soccer teams, girls’ field hockey, boys’ and girls’ cross country and girls’ club volleyball teams will begin Aug. 30, right after school at 2:30 p.m.

Any sixth- through eighth-grade students are eligible to play any sport. Fifth-grade students may try out for cross-country only. Tryout times are 2:30 to 4 p.m. Athletic Director Tod Silegy will meet with the student-athletes and go over information when school begins Aug. 30 in the gym. All students trying out should report to the gym right after school that day.

Tryouts will continue after school until the respective coaches are ready to make their teams. Communication will be sent home from the coach. Athletes will meet their coaches in the gym on the first day of school.  All players should bring water bottles, as there is no water on the field, shin guards for soccer and field hockey, mouth guards for field hockey only, proper footwear and appropriate athletic clothing. Field hockey players should bring a field hockey stick and protective eye wear, as well.

If any athlete is missing any piece of equipment, he or she should still come to tryouts. Silegy will help with equipment Aug. 30.

All cross country, soccer, field hockey and volleyball athletes must have a signed parent permission form with them on the first day of tryouts. An updated physical from should be in the SMS nurse’s office by the first day of tryouts. All forms may be downloaded from the SMS website, sms.convalsd.net, under “Programs and Services – Sports.”
