Two men were charged with driving while intoxicated following a crash late on Friday night in Rindge.

Just before midnight on Friday, police responded to Payson Hill Road, near the intersection of Main Street, Rindge police officer Max Rocheleau said Monday.

A Saturn sedan, driven by Gerald Davis, 51, of Winchendon, Massachusetts, had gone off the road while driving south on Payson Hill Road while traveling from Jaffrey, Rocheleau said.

Davis and his passenger, Paul Scofield, 54, of Rindge, were both arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, Rocheleau said. Rocheleau said during interviews with the two men, they allegedly admitted to switching drivers at some point during the drive.

“They were both driving the car at one point, which is why they were both charged,” Rocheleau said.

Both men had minor injuries from the crash, and Davis was taken by ambulance to Monadnock Community Hospital. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Both were released on personal recognizance and issued a court date of May 23 at the 8th Circuit Court, Jaffrey.
