Two people were killed in a single-car crash on Turnpike Road on Saturday night.

According to a press release issued by the New Ipswich Police Department, police and emergency services were dispatched to the area of 1195 Turnpike Road (Route 124) at 6:08 p.m. Saturday, where they found a 2004 Dodge Viper convertible crashed on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway.

One of the occupants of the vehicle was found outside the car with life-threatening injuries, and was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The second occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, according to police.

New Ipswich police were assisted by the New Ipswich Fire Department, the Souhegan Valley Ambulance, New Hampshire State Police, Jaffrey, Peterborough and Temple-Greenville Police Departments and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

Route 124 was closed for approximately two hours while police investigated. The crash is currently being investigated and anyone who witnessed the crash or has other information is asked to contact the New Ipswich Police Department at 878-2771.
