Hit-and-run damage to a utility pole closed a section of Union Street for two hours on Tuesday for emergency repairs.

The pole, outside 168 Union St., was hit by a vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday morning, Police Chief Scott Guinard said, but an Eversource crew member discovered and reported the damage to the pole, prompting immediate repairs.

Both lanes of Union Street were closed from 12:30 to 3 p.m., and one lane remained closed for several more hours. Police had located the suspect vehicle and were investigating the collision as of Wednesday afternoon, Guinard said.
