Local Veterans Day events

The following is a list of events in the area marking Veterans Day.

ANTRIM

Antrim’s American Legion Post will hold a Fun Run/Walk 5K and children’s calisthenics course fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the American Legion, 7 West St. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. Entry is $20 for adults, and children participate for free.

Children’s activities will include jumping jacks, high jumps, knee lifts, toe touches and arm circles, with prizes awarded for those who complete all categories. The 5K is free for anyone presenting a 2025 American Legion membership card or for those who join the Legion on the day of the event.

BENNINGTON

Bennington’s Brown-Knight Memorial VFW Post 8268 will host a free dinner for veterans and their families on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 9 Hancock Road, Bennington. The meal will feature steak, lobster, potatoes, salad and dessert.

FRANCESTOWN

Francestown will mark Veterans Day on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. All area residents are invited to participate, with veterans encouraged to wear uniforms if available. Assembly begins at 10:30 a.m. near the horse sheds, with poppies available for attendees.

Participants will march to Memorial Park for opening remarks, a Pledge of Allegiance, wreath presentation, prayer by the American Legion Post No. 50 chaplain, and a rifle salute with “Taps.”

After the ceremony, the FES PTO will host a free community luncheon. Attendees are invited to visit the “Missing Man” table and share time with veterans.

A handmade quilt, donated by an anonymous “quilt angel,” will be raffled for veterans who have not received a quilt before.

GREENFIELD

Greenfield will mark Veterans Day on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. on the common (Meeting House lawn).

JAFFREY

The John Humiston Post No. 11 American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5613 and the Town of Jaffrey invite area residents to join in honoring Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11. A parade of veterans will assemble at 10:15 a.m. at Jaffrey’s Blake Street parking lot, stepping off at 10:40 a.m. toward the Town Common. The observance will feature a prayer, a wreath-laying, and an address by retired Navy officer William “Bud” Taylor, with the national anthem following.

Veterans and active service members are encouraged to join in the march. Refreshments will be provided afterward at American Legion Post No. 11, 20 Webster St., Jaffrey.

The Park Theatre, 19 Main St., Jaffrey, will screen the World War II musical comedy “This Is The Army” as a free event for Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11. Showtime is at noon, and doors open 30 minutes early.

Released by Warner Bros. in 1943, “This Is The Army” was directed by Michael Curtiz and features music and lyrics by Irving Berlin. The film follows actor Jerry Jones (George Murphy) as he stages a morale-boosting show for fellow soldiers during World War I, a tradition his son Johnny (Ronald Reagan) carries on as World War II begins.

The theater will provide free pizza and soda to veterans and their families before the screening. Admission is free for all attendees. Reservations are encouraged at theparktheatre.org or by calling The Park Theatre box office at 603-532-8888.

LYNDEBOROUGH

Veterans’ Day activities will be held on Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at Center Hall. The Lafayette Artillery Company will host the ceremony, including a cannon salute, with refreshments following.

PETERBOROUGH

Peterborough will observe Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11, beginning with a Remembrance Service at 9 a.m. at All Saints’ Church. Coffee and doughnuts will be served afterward by the Auxiliary. Veterans and participants will then muster at Veterans Way at 10:30 a.m., with the parade stepping off at 10:40 a.m. to march to the Peterborough Library Bridge for the Sea Service, then continue to the Peterborough Town House for the main ceremony.

Non-marchers should be seated in the Town House by 10:45 a.m.

The Rev. Jennifer L. Walters will deliver the homily, with readings by John Franklin, Lewis Hansen, Lockard Row, Lawrence Mack and Wayne Thomas. Brian Barden will serve as usher.

Participants include members of American Legion Cheney-Armstrong Post 5, local veterans, the South Meadow Middle School Band, U.S. Naval Sea Cadets, American Heritage Girls, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Peterborough’s police and fire departments.

The Appalachian Mountain Club will host a Veterans Day hike at Pack Monadnock in Miller State Park on Monday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants are required to register in advance by emailing heathermccurdy99@gmail.com, as the event may fill up.

State park entrance fees are $4 for adults 12 and up, $2 for children ages 6-11, and free for children under 6, payable at the park entrance. For information, go to activities.outdoors.org/search/index.cfm/action/details/id/154135.

RINDGE

Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge will hold a Veterans Day service on Monday, Nov. 11, at 10:45 a.m., featuring a special dedication to Leslie P. Tallarico, a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps paratrooper who turns 100 in January.

The service will honor Tallarico and all veterans, with guest speaker Scott Fifield, a 33-year military veteran of the Marine Corps and National Guard, and the current director of Toys for Tots of Cheshire County. The Rindge Veterans Association will present the color guard and firing squad, with David Pipitone performing “Taps.” The Rev. Steve Miller from First Church of Jaffrey Center will also participate.

SHARON

The Town of Sharon will host its annual Veterans Day program at noon Monday, Nov. 11, at the Sharon Town Offices parking lot, 90 S. Main St.

The event will feature a guest speaker and include participation from veterans, Scouts, Sharon police and fire departments, Sharon Public School students, military units and veteran organizations. Performances by the Sharon High School select choir and band are also scheduled.

The program will include displays from the Sharon Historical Society, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Army National Guard and a Vietnam-era memorabilia collection, available for viewing from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Community members are encouraged to attend.

In case of inclement weather, the program will be moved indoors to the Town Offices lobby at noon.

WILTON

Wilton-Lyndeborough Middle/High School will host its annual Veterans Day celebration Thursday, Nov. 7, at 9 a.m. at 57 School Road, Wilton. The event will include presentations of Student Patriot Pen Essays and a reception honoring veterans.
