On Tuesday night, Ben Jacob, Alex Nelson and Joe Krug led the Wilton-Lyndeborough boys’ basketball team to a 34-33 victory over Mount Royal Academy, the team’s first win of the season.

Jacob scored 16 points, while Krug hit a crucial three-pointer with two minutes remaining to keep WLC in the game. With the score tied at 29-29 and 49 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, the Warriors took their first lead of the game, but were quickly turned around by the Knight’s fast-responding offense. With 10 seconds remaining and the game on the line, Nelson hit a two-pointer in the corner over two defenders, securing the win for the Warriors.

After the buzzer, Nelson said the feeling of making the final shot was one he’ll never forget.

“It’s really thrilling. It’s the best feeling I’ve had in a long time,” he said.

Following the victory, WLC’s Tyler Gill said he’s excited to see his team keep their momentum.

“I was glad to see my boys get it together and pull the win,” said Gill.

With the first win of the season under their belt, bringing their record to 1-3, WLC head coach Ken Garnham said there is plenty of work ahead for the Warriors.

“This is a developing team and we only have one senior,” said Garnham. “We are just trying to get better every time.”
