Wilton voters will have their first official look at the budget and warrant articles, including one to repair the King Brook Road Bridge, during Wilton’s budget hearing on Tuesday night.

The proposed budget is $4.8 million.

One of the articles proposed on Wilton’s warrant is a request for $139,710 to contribute to the repair of the bridge on King Brook Road. The town’s portion will be added to $558,840 from the state’s Department of Transportation State Aid Bridge Program, and $515,450 raised by the town in 2016 in a non-lapsing article.

The town is also requesting funds to be added to the bridges capital reserve account for future bridge repairs, including the bridge on Old County Farm Road, which is not currently red-listed by the state, but does have identified issues.

The fire department is requesting a total of $100,000 to be added to the department’s capital reserves this year. Half would go to the equipment reserve, for the eventual replacement of the town’s fire trucks, and half would go into the reserve for the purchase of air packs, which will be replaced in 2020.

The town is looking to update its street lights, for a total cost of $41,422. The funds would replace existing lights with energy-efficient LEDs. The energy savings from the updated lights have a three-year payback.

Voters will be able to weigh in on the salary for the Select Board and for the Town Clerk/Tax Collector in two separate articles this year.

One article requests the town raise the sum of $5,600 for increasing the Select Board stipend, which would result in the board members being paid $4,000 per year, and the chair $4,500.

In a separate article, the town is requesting an increase in the clerk/tax collector salary of $6,252. If passed, the annual salary for the elected position would be $68,767 per year.

The town will also be requesting several articles to continue leases or make purchases of town vehicles

The budget hearing for Wilton will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall. The snow date is Wednesday at the same time and place.
